Ahead of the March elections in Bulgaria, that country’s electoral commission has published the numbers of Bulgarian nationals or holders of a Bulgarian passport living abroad who have registered to vote.
The number of registered voters from Macedonia is only 328 people.
This number further discredits the claims of Bulgarian right wing politicians, like Krasimir Karakachanov, that Macedonian holders of Bulgarian passport feel that they belong to the Bulgarian ethnicity and should be part of the Macedonian constitution.
The Bulgarian President, Rumen Radev, went as far as claiming that Bulgarians in Macedonia are persecuted and unable to express their ethnic belonging even though there are three Bulgarian cultural centers and several official and unofficial organizations.
